Doris Small Helfer

Doris Small Helfer  was until recently the Chair, Collection Access and Management Services at California State University Northridge and has stepped down to focus on her other duties as Engineering, FCS and Social Sciences Librarian.  She had a column in "Searcher Magazine: the Magazine of the Database Professional".  Her most recent publication was as co-author of the article on "Technical Services" in the "Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science" 4th edition currently scheduled to be published in 2017.   Her B.A. is from CSU Northridge and her M.S.L. is from Western Michigan University. 

She served as President of the  SLA Southern Calif. Chapter, SLA Chair of the IT Division, Communications Division, and Knowledge Management Divisions, and on the SLA Board of Directors as Division Cabinet Chair.  In addition she has served as Chair of the SLA Networking, Public Relations, Scholarship, and Information Outlook Advisory Council and numerous other volunteer positions.  She was the recipent of the Distinguished Teacher/Librarian of the Year award at her University, the SLA Rose Vermelker Award for mentoring and has been honored by being named to the SLA Hall of Fame.  She most recently received the SLA John Cotton Dana Award, the Association's highest honor.
