Jones has been the Director of the Marin County Free Library since July of 2013. Sara has an MLS from Syracuse University and is a current doctoral student in the distance independent PhD program at the University of North Texas, studying the implications and efficacy of online and hybrid MLS programs. Prior to coming to California, she held positions in Nevada Libraries for 25 years. She served as the Carson City Library Director, the Elko-Lander-Eureka County Library System Director and their Youth Services Coordinator, and served as the Nevada State Librarian and Administrator of the State Library and Archives. She has over 25 years of experience managing libraries. Jones has taught at the San Jose State University and the University of North Texas LIS programs. She will chair the California Library Association Legislative Committee in 2016 and currently is on the Executive Committee of Link+ (a union catalog of contributed holdings from participating libraries in California and Nevada where patrons from member libraries electronically request an item not available in their own library and it is delivered to them for check-out).
