LaVentra E. Danquah is the Director of the Vera P. Shiffman Medical Library and the Learning Resource Center at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she leads a team of exceptional professionals in the discovery, appraisal, acquisition, and adoption of resources and services that meet the campus community's emerging information needs in research, teaching and learning, and clinical care.
She has worked at the Wayne State University Libraries for 23 years, where she has encouraged innovation and leadership in library instruction, working with the community, and staff development. Among her many accomplishments are transforming Shiffman's Outreach Services into a national model within the Network of the National Library of Medicine, establishing a multi-institution outreach advisory council, and serving as the principal investigator on numerous grants to educate the community on a variety of health-related topics. She is committed to advancing the mission of the Vera P. Shiffman Medical Library by making it a leading academic medical library that provides constant access to medical and health information and new learning spaces in order to create new knowledge for teaching and learning, research and discovery, and patient care.
Danquah is a Distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals, a member of the editorial board of Medical Reference Services Quarterly, and co-editor of the column Trends in Health Sciences Libraries. Danquah has written several articles and often gives talks at national conferences. When she is not working, she can be found taking in a good book on the waterfront.
